An immersive audio installation in which participants explore a narrative through physical space. Inspired by fictional depictions of faded British seaside towns in writing and film, the idea was to conjure up imagined memories of a seaside town: the rhythms and sounds of day to day life with a hint of something darker beneath it all.
Creating a prototype narrative soundscape
Technology is usually about being cutting edge and solving problems. However, the imperfections of a technology can be an advantage when creating a more experimental or artistic experience. I had found beacons to be unreliable with location accuracy on a previous project. Were there any other scenarios where this inaccuracy could be put to good use? This led to the idea of using beacons to create a narrative soundscape in an enclosed environment.
The following is a visual treatment concept video of the prototype installation that was created.
